What is Book (order book)?

The full stack of resting bids and asks at every price. Depth of book is the real measure of how much an order will move the price.

The book is every resting bid and ask at every price, stacked. It is the market's intentions, where the tape is the market's actions — and the two disagree constantly, because an intention can be withdrawn and a trade cannot. That gap is where most of the useful information lives.
