What is Absorption?

Heavy aggressive buying or selling that fails to move the price, because someone is quietly filling it from the other side. Usually the most informative thing on a tape.

Absorption is the most informative thing a tape does, and the easiest to miss. Heavy buying arrives, and the price does not move — because somebody is quietly selling into all of it. The aggression is visible and the resistance is not, so the naive read is 'buyers are strong' at the exact moment the opposite is being demonstrated. On the field it looks like an advance that keeps coming and never gains ground.
